    What's special

Please click the photos to see them correctly; several are panoramas. We have just renovated this adorable Art Deco cottage in Hillcrest to owner quality. The goal was to preserve the Art Deco details and restore the property, rather than gut it and replace the built in cabinetry and bookshelves with Ikea garbage. To this end, the carpet was pulled up and the original oak floors were refinished, all the goopy, rental quality paint was stripped off the curved bookshelves and built in cabinetry, the doors were taken off and sanded, hinges and handles replaced, and painted with the highest quality Benjamin Moore Advance paint. All the fixtures were thrown out and replaced with new lighting, fans, switches, and outlets. The linoleum was ripped out and replaced with expensive and period correct tile. It took several months, but those who can perceive quality will appreciate it. There are two smallish bedrooms and an original Art Deco bathroom. There is a dining area off the kitchen with large picture window that has a seat. We reupholstered it with down-wrapped foam and sunbrella fabric and it is now an extremely comfortable place to sit. The living room has a wall of paneled wood and built in curved bookshelves and cabinets which were painstakingly restored. A sliding glass door opens from the living room to the laundry area and out to the back yard, which is absolutely enormous and features a tree fit for contemplative meditation. Its a huge backyard and would welcome a gardener. After all this work we are looking for a tenant who will treat it as their own, and help preserve the brand new finishes. So we are seeking a charming, well-kept, consciencieous renter with excellent credit and no pets. We would like the tenant to use felt pads under the legs of their furniture to protect the new hardwood floor. The hospitals are a short walk away so the house would be perfect for someone working there. Situated on the crest of a hill l, amid classic California Spanish homes in the most interesting neighborhood in San Diego. 226 West Lewis is a short stroll to the Hillcrest Business district: a progressive, boutiquey, foodie, multiple bookstore, vinyl record shop and art cinema paradise. Hillcrest is the gayest part of San Diego; which historically means great food, antique stores, cafes and boutiques--along with the whiff of friendly, Mardi Gras playfulness on display at Mo's Bar and Grill and the Brass Rail. But Hillcrest is more than brunching at Snooze, browsing 5th Ave Bookshop for a Martin Amis first edition while licking your gelato from Chocolat. It's not just eating at Sushi Co., or picking up a fresh baguette at the local baker or stopping by Taang Records to pick up a vinyl of Dark Side of the Moon. Hillcrest is a few short blocks to Balboa Park, where your children can romp on the playground, or shoot arrows at the archery range or have tea in the zen garden, see Elephants at the Zoo, pretend to be an astronaut at the Space museum or go see a play at the Old Globe. Balboa Park is a walkable resource that everyone else in San Diego has to shlep in their cars to experience. You can hike and ride the mountain bike trails, and still be only an 8 minute drive to Little Italy or Downtown; 15 minutes to Mission Beach and 12 minutes to sailing at the Harbor. The neighborhood is the best of San Diego architecture, which means between the Victorian founding and WWII. Victorian detail and 1920s Spanish Stucco houses and buildings are shaded by mature trees. This is where you want to live in San Diego. No pets or smoking. And please bring the phone number of previous landlords. If you are serious I would fill out the online application at www.goldenmanagement.com or contact them for the application package at 619.698.6911. Please reply to this ad to set up a viewing. Absolutely no pets. Please don't ask. No smoking.
