    What's special

Is it Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard or Maine? Entering in the door the fresh bright rooms are elegant and inviting, there's something about the light and the sea breeze that comes over the hill  from out the Golden Gate over miles and miles of ocean. Originally an island, 'hidden' Point Richmond, is truly like living in a small town. It's small, with a library; a grocery store with a good butcher; a few cafe's and restaurants. It's a place where people know their neighbors and those lucky enough to live close in to the center, as 228 Santa Fe is, can simply stroll to coffee or to The Natatorium, the huge indoor WPA swimming pool known as The Plunge. Through the tunnel to the other side of the hill, there's a spectacular view of San Francisco Bay, Marin and the Richmond/San Rafael Bridge. It's just a hop over the bridge to Marin, or a few exits to Berkeley, an incredibly convenient location. According to Public Records, 228-230 Santa Fe was built in 1902, I believe it's a Victorian. A pocket door allows the living room to be closed off from the dining room; the ceilings are high; it has tall windows and very likely original moldings. Along one side is a rose garden, the back has a beautiful 'secret 'English style garden with a big deck, perfect for entertaining. Currently a duplex the downstairs is a big one bedroom, with a formal dining room and an elegant kitchen with a breakfast nook, that leads out to the deck and garden. Upstairs there is a generous comfortable 1 bedroom with an eat-in kitchen and a deck that looks over the garden. Most likely the original house was a single family residence. There's a painted shut door in the entry foyer that could open and allow interior access to the upper level and it might be possible to turn it into a large 4 bedroom home. 228-230 Santa Fe is like a shell in the hand with the sound of the sea inside when you hold it to your ear: calm is inside.
