    What's special

Neoclassic, resembles and is referred to by Realtors as the "Gone With The Wind" movie,Terra, cotton plantation house. Four redwood columns with a Greek Ionic pediment atop them. Long 400+foot lot ends at a beautiful stream that flows year round. Woodlawn was built in the classic historical style of times gone by. A central breezeway on both floors has rooms off that to right and left. Rooms are about 15x15 in keeping with Southern traditional layout of floorplan. Kitchen has a black and brass Cluny gas stove, imported from France. The chandelier over the dining room table is magnificent with 14 tall Waterford Lismore cut glass chimneys and two cut glass bowls with brushed brass imported from Italy. The middle of the kitchen floor is occupied by a 400 pound 80 year old butcher block made in Cincinnati for Dr. Cox's grandfather who had a butcher shop and grocery. The basement walls are poured concrete. The house's footer is drained by rigid PVC pipe, not the cheap, flexible, hose usually used, which can crimp from rocks settling years later causing the basement to leak. The owners spent top dollar when building the house on things you can't see, such as this. The plantings are amazing year round, especially the hillside flower cutting and vegetable garden next to the front porch. There is an upholstered "swing bed" made from Kentucky red oak suspended over the porch floor copied from the two porch swings on the porch of the frame Carnegie mansion on Cumberland Island Georgia. The swing is large enough for two persons to snooze, lying down beside each other without their head or feet ever touching either armrest. The Pennsylvania blue stone porch floor is under laid with heating element wiring which is presently not operable. The porch balcony floor was recently remodeled with aluminum beams and aluminum decking from Alabama. It cannot rot and will not need painting for decades. The living room fireplace was salvaged from a traveler's tavern on Richmond Road which in the mid 1900's. It has homemade nails in its construction. It has several black powder bullet-hole dents from one or two patrons who perhaps had a little too much Kentucky bourbon one evening while playing poker one may imagine. There is a ghost who has been seen. She appeared beautifully clothed in a blue hoopskirt gown, with her hair put up and wearing a necklace gliding down the breezeway, looking straight ahead, then vanished, and was never seen again. She strongly resembled one of Mrs. Sarah Cox's ancestors of whom there is a large oil hanging on the wall along the staircase. The chimneys are capped with beautiful four feet tall solid copper covers which were made in Indiana by metalsmiths for this home. The copper chimney caps' blue patina is natural.
