CHURCH STREET HOUSE c. 1850, one of the oldest homes in Plaquemine, has been a stately landmark for over 150 years. Located in the Historic District and listed on the National Register, this home sits directly across the street from the historic St. Basil's Academy and is a short walk from St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, the Iberville Parish Museum, First United Methodist Church, and the Plaquemine Locks. Home is a Louisiana raised cottage with a raised wrap-around porch featuring hand-hewn cypress columns and working louvered shutters. The home is constructed of native cypress and contains some of the original glass windows, fireplaces, as well as some antique furnishings dating to original families. The parlor opens to the formal dining room through a large columned archway. Dining room features 1 of 2 original gas light fixtures which has been converted to electric light. Just off the dining room is a small den which served the original owner as a doctor's office.
