You are required to have renters insurance with liability in case you cause a fire or some other calamity insurance will cover the loss. Currently renters insurance with liability is less than $20 a month. I had a kitchen fire once it didn't look that bad but it cost $31k to fix it. Glad that did come out of my pocket!
