My family bought this home in 1950 and it has been in the family since. The home was built in 1930 as a model home, showcasing the finest building materials of the time. The foundation is 10 inch block, and a steel girder spans the length of the basement, and with the brick exterior makes a very solid home. Red oak flooring is throughout the house and has been protected by carpet most of the time my family has owned it. Beautifully crafted red oak trim was used through the first level as well. Many of the windows still have the real leaded glass panes. Remodeling was under way when my brother, the last occupant, died, so unfortunately this was not completed. He had a vision of new baths and a remodeled kitchen. However, this is advantageous to a new owner who can thus choose their own colors and styles. In a similar way, trees have grown up in the back yard, but can be selectively cut, to allow for a more secluded private yard, or can be all taken out to restore the yard to the lawn I remember. The roof needs work and paint is needed, but the uniqueness of this home allows for a transformation that will make it a showcase. I believe the cost of improvements is offset by the quality of original construction and the unique charm that makes this home one of a kind.
