    What's special

    New gutters
New 50 yr, 20 SRI, 130 MPH resistant energy efficient roof installed: along with new gutters. Removal of fire damage woods in the back draw beginning soon thanks to funding from CAL Fire and US Forestry Dept. The view will be even more amazing. This historic cozy little cottage was built in 1892/3 by Mr. Lowe. The foundation for the back of the house is on a boulder. The house has much history beginning in the Gold Rush. Most of the brick seen in the front walkway (and used for foundation support) was actually made on this lot in the late 1800’s. The street is named after Mr. Lowe. An old friend and historian of the town said he walks the streets at night just to check-up on the neighborhood. Now, there are numerous walkers who enjoy the views on this back street for a pleasant lunch, afternoon or evening walk. The house was converted to a brothel after Mr. Lowe’s death in 1900's. The front was added in the 50’s. In 1981/2 the house was remodeled by adding the retaining wall and a 2,100 sq ft. deck from custom cut local wood (great for entertaining) surrounding the entire house with a very soothing Triton water fountain in the front. Large back yard. The inside, you will see the warm woods in all rooms. It was originally 2 bedrooms; we removed the wall from the front bedroom to enlarge for open space. In 1994, half of the windows were replaced with dual pain Pella windows enhancing the historic character and increasing the efficiency of the house. The SMART meter has been removed (at a cost per the 3-year PG&E ‘Opt Out’ program) back to a healthy, analog meter. The SMART meter added harmful EMF radiation to the bedroom & house. The fireplace is gas and is an excellent, clean heat source which also functions during power outages (just without the blower). Continued heat by lava rock after propane turns off. A new 250-gal propane tank has been installed; propane prices are usually lower if owned. If you like to cook; the propane stove/oven is a convection and conventional with a grill. The fun greenhouse (with a new roof) is also the laundry room. Sunset views in the winter are spectacular & the night skies year-round are magnificent. All year long you can see the Valley lights in the evening, and on a clear day - Mr. Diablo in the Bay Area. The yard has something in bloom somewhere all year round. Wildlife is abundant: birds, hummingbirds (if you feed them), squirrels, opossum, a few cats, deer, a neighborhood fox and neighborhood bats (outstanding for eating mosquitoes). There is also a natural honeybee hive in the lower backyard. They are amazing to watch & help agriculture in the neighborhood and Foresthill. I do not recommend getting too close in the summers’ afternoon ‘in and out’ pollen collecting swarm around the hive – but watch at a distance. They do sting if caught in your hair. In the winter when they are dormant, there is a quiet buzz inside the log. The house is also passive solar. Numerous trees surround the house which produces shade and keeps the house cooler in the summer while the exposed deck in the southern winter sun heats up the back deck, so when opening the back door – heat can transfer to the inside of the house in mid-afternoon. There are many producing fruit trees, blackberries and grapes, along with some new plantings. The house is located one block off the main road. Restaurants nearby. There are many annual events (including parades) on the Main Street and at the local Memorial Park nearby. “The Lowe House” is the perfect first home, down-sizing, weekend getaway, second home with much character, heart and warmth to enjoy life for the right person or persons who are willing to take the time to care for the beautiful ambiance it encompasses.
