    What's special

In 1922 Hans Hirte built his Mission Revival home designed by San Diego architect, Ray Alderson. First time on the market, this Bankers Hill Grande Dame has original woodwork, light fixtures, hardware and tiles-including original interior paint and decoration. President of W.J. Bailey Company, building supplier, Hirte used the finest materials. This unique home has Italian tile on the roof and original wrought iron accents and gates throughout. As you climb the brick stairs note the panoramic Downtown to Point Loma views that are also seen from many rooms. Main patio has Italian tiles, an original Batchelder wall fountain and a lower terrace. A formal entry leads to the living room or the stairs to a second level master suite. An oversized living room has tiger striped oak floors, 11 inch mahogany baseboards and window casings, Batchelder tiled fireplace and a panoramic view. Mahogany built-in bookcases are on each end of the fireplace. Glass pocket doors separate the living room from the formal entry and dining room. The dining room is similarly appointed. An updated kitchen retains the built-in china storage. A mudroom with separate street entrance doubles as a pantry. Sitting room (or extra bedroom) is next to dining room and a large main hall (note original skylight) leads to 2 Bedrooms and 2 baths. A pioneer design of indoor-outdoor living, lower bedrooms and sitting room have triptych glassed doors to either the main patio or a rear garden and patio. The main bath with a 6 foot tub and separate shower is adjacent to the hall and one bedroom. Another bedroom has a private bath with a shower and cedar closet. Original oak floors, bathroom tiles are in these rooms. Upstairs bedroom suite has private stairs from the foyer, its own bath, tiger striped oak floors, mahogany built-in bookcases, closet w/ cupboards and drawers; and original relief scenes created by California artist Charles Arthur Fries. A view area looks to Downtown, Bay, ocean and on clear days, the
