We loved that our house was a true home and a place we could really live in. It gave us such a sense of place and belonging within the city, and neighborhood. You felt connected to everything, and so many quintessential San Francisco locals were reachable in minutes - Bakers Beach, Golden Gate Park, Ocean Beach, Aquatic Park, (we loved the beach), and Downtown.The living room had a welcoming feeling and lent itself to all occasions. We loved that it could be full of visitors and conversation, or a quiet spot to read or listen to music and then we'd roll up the rug and dance while enjoying appetizers before dinner. It was cozy too on a foggy SF day in front of the fireplace staring at the glowing embers till they went out.The dinning room was the heart of the house and dinnertime was a celebration made all the more grand by the elegance of the built-in sideboard and stained glass. People loved to come to our house for a party, family or holiday celebrations. We loved that our house was the place that everyone wanted to gather, and to all who came through it was a memorable time. We may not have fully realized it as kids but we seemed to have soaked in the specialness of the house, all the woodwork, the richness of it's color, even the little leaf details carved into the banister heads which we grabbed onto when used it as a slide - lol! We certainly came to appreciate it more as we grew up and now only feel gratitude.We loved that the house just sparkled when the sun shined through from one end to the other, upstairs, downstairs, top to bottom. I used to love to see the refracted rainbows coming through the front door windows reflected on the floors. Little things caught my eye and my imagination, even the heater grates or the mosaic tiles on the front stair stoops was a source of investigation, or a place where all the kids came to eat large bowls of popcorn on Halloween.For a child there were nooks and crannies in closets perfect to play hide and seek, or create fantasy tea parties in, like under the slanted cubby in the middle bedroom. We loved the rooftop room also because it gave you a feeling of freedom and perspective to be able to look out onto the cityscape from the comfort of our home. It was our getaway as teenagers but we drew inspiration there too and painted pictures of the view that became art that was hung on the wall.The street was our urban playground and the backyard our sanctuary for every kind of adventure you could dream up and still be in earshot for when mom called for dinner. It was so great having the deck eventually. We loved having mealtime outside overlooking the garden when it was in its prime. And from there, you see our neighbor's big tree, which we love like an old grandparent. It had a huge swing that brought countless hours of fun and hilarity. 247 15thAvenue was filled with families and kids from different cultures and we were never without friends to play with. Even our big garage provided the proscenium for putting on plays with everyone on the block.We loved our neighborhood and I cannot separate my experience from all that the Richmond district gave us. So many places that are iconic to our childhood are still here - the Bagel House, the Russian Bakery, the Aquarium, and Mountain Lake Park - where we spent a lot of time in the sandbox, on the swings, doing the exercise course or having a family picnic. Our home was a beautiful, bright presence on the street and in our lives enduring all these years. It was built with integrity and character and we trust it will continue to bring joy to its next owners.
