    What's special

Around 1940 Norman Palmer Hill had finished college in Wisconsin where he met Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lloyd Wright and was invited to be his apprentice, after a 2 year fellowship he returned to Utah. In 1955 he designed and built this house at 2542 Solar Dr. in Holladay Utah. The wide open floor plan with an oversized sliding glass door to the back patio feels like a breath of fresh air. Views from the front and back yard to Mtn Olympus, a quite neighborhood, and mature trees all feel like the perfect setting for a mid century architect to build his own personal home where he and his wife lived for 57 years until he moved to a rest home 2 years before he passed away in 2014. Of course the connection to Frank Lloyd Wright is exciting and his influence on the original builder/ architect over years of fellowship is evident when you walk through the front door but I see it as a “fun fact” more than a claim to fame (although I do have documentation to back up the story). The only reason I mention it here is that I find the history of this house intriguing/ cool. Knowing more about the owner’s history has made me feel more connected to this house. There was a slight update done in 2003 the original owner finished the basement, then in 2012 it had some updates before we bought it in 2017 and started over, updating all 3 bathrooms and the kitchen, paint, hardwood refinish (still original), all cabinets, all countertops, carpet, baseboards, plumbing and fixtures in the bathrooms, main water line to the house, new water filtration system and water softener, all new roof, light fixtures throughout… this was an update but not a remodel. The bones of the house were and are perfectly designed for an open living vibe with the kitchen, dining, living back patio and now halfpipe all cohesively flowing from one to the other. We absolutely love this house and the neighborhood. The location is perfectly situated between 15 minute drive to the north for downtown dinners/ weekends out or University of Utah campus events, 10 minutes to Sugarhouse park and surrounding restaurants. 15 minutes from 9th and 9th area with shopping parks and great restaurants. 15 minutes to the east is Woodward skate park and snowboard/ biking lift access with world class park/ halfpipe.. 20 minutes to The Canyons resort/ Park city Main Street events and restaurants. 5 minutes to the east is Millcreek Canyon with some of the best hiking biking (one of the only canyons that allows dogs) To the south it’s 30 minutes to FOUR WORLD CLASS SKI RESORTS Brighton, Solitude, Snowbird and Alta. walking/ biking distance to great restaurants, coffee shops, local grocers/ markets and a newly built/ being constructed holladay skate park about 1 mile away. One of my favorite things about living in Holladay is that it is all very walkable/ bike-able. Surrounded by well established neighborhoods with lots of large trees, friendly walkers, great community. as far as local schools, we are 1 block from the Olympus High School track/ football field. Available tennis courts, track, field etc has always been a great place to get outside for a short game. Skyline is about 1.5 miles to the east. Wasatch jr high and Olympus jr. both within biking distance. The only reason it is monitored here is that I find the history of this house intriguing/ cool. Knowing more about the owners history has made me feel more connected to the house, I’m not saying it’s historic, just a cool connection… and I did find some documentation to back up the story if you’re interested it’s available upon request. I’m selling this by owner, I’m happy to work with unrepresented individuals or with agents on the buying side, not interested in listing with an agent.
