    What's special

Open floor plan, many windows, views of San Gabriel Mountains and Mt. Baldy. In addition to a large living room and large family room, the home features a formal dining room and a large den with a second fireplace. There is an office inside the house with its own entrance and superb nature views. The sloping property features mature shade trees, drough- tolerant landscaping, and the entire 1/2 acre is served by an automatic sprinkler system. The home has all copper pipes, a Spanish tile roof (replaced in 2009), saltillo tile flooring and extensive bamboo (wood) flooring throughout. There are two staircases at opposite ends of the house, joining the main floor (the entry floor) and the lower floor. The kitchen was remodeled in 1996 and features abundant solid maple cabinetry, Thermador built-in 42" refrigerator, GE gas cooktop and Gaggenau oven, with a double sink and a prep/bar sink on a peninsula counter. Counters are set with Italian glazed clay tile. The kitchen, family room, living room, den, entry and hallways have recessed overhead lighting. There is an inset display gallery on one stair landing (for display of sculpture, art, books, etc.), and 60 linear feet of built-in shelves and enclosed cabinets in the living room. Laundry service is in the attached garage, which was built to larger than normal dimensions to accommodate laundry and a work area or equipment storage. Behind the garage is a shed built to accommodate Glendale's extra large trash barrels. Slightly downhill at the back of the house is a winding set of flagstone steps, leading to the lower property boundary. Along the way, there is a charming gazebo with build-in seating and a working ceiling fan. At the lowest level there is an enclosed vegetable garden and a flagstone patio large enough for barbeque and entertaining. Up at the house level, a large redwood deck was built under an enormous coastal oak tree, providing yet another entertainment space, or just a spot to read a good book. The house has six entry/exit doors, to the north, east and south sides of the home. The large basement has not been finished for continuous use, (and is now used for storage), but can be finished and is large enough to use for additional office, meditation/yoga space, tv hideaway, or even a children's bedroom, with a little bit of planning. Neighborhood Description The canyon is rustic; in our area, up above Chevy Chase, we do not have sidewalks, curbs or street lights at this time, so we are always able to see the stars. It is a place where residents understand their responsibility for sharing space and resources with a wide variety of wildlife, and many canyon residents safeguard the animals who are otherwise being squeezed from their natural habitat. It is a place where many people stroll in the early evenings, and their is wonderful camaraderie, even if we don't know everyone else's name. Canyon people are those who prefer not to live on top of each other, or fence to fence. Each and every home is different, and positioned to best use the natural resources we have, thus neighbors generally can maintain a high level of privacy, should they choose to do so. Canyon people are intensely interested in Glendale city politics and are active, particularly in staking their positions on matters related to new home building standards, traffic abatement, infrastructure maintenance, etc. Efforts are made to maintain solid relationships with the police department, as well as the Glendale Fire Department; the biggest threat to our idyllic lives here in the canyon is fire. Everyone is conscientious about brush clearing and we have not had a fire for over ten years. It's a blessing to be part of this little community.
