An excellent caretaker lives nearby who plows the driveway in the winter if Taconite program isn't running. Annual plowing costs $300-$500. The guest house is an excellent space for a home office and hosting. It is not meant as a primary residence, however. Inadequate heating limits the long-term usability of guest house as a primary residence. The current wood stove in the guest house may be used along with electric heat to bring the upstairs to comfortable temps in the coldest parts of winter. However, the wood stove requires considerable attention to maintain temperature. It is not recommended for continuous heat overnight for more than a few nights at a time. Daytime use of the guest house during the coldest times of the year is more manageable and quite cozy. We ask that we can reserve the use of the guest house up to 3 weekends or 14 days per year and would give a minimum 4-weeks notice to try and find a time that works for everyone.
