So heres a true story: a building contractor and an interior designer fall in love and get married. They want to start a family so they look for a good neighborhood with schools and parks nearby thats not too far from downtown St. Paul. They find a little old house located on a block with many much more expensive houses and they buy it. It needs everything done to it but theyre happy there and they begin to upgrade it - a little at a time. And then the kids come along as they do in so many stories like this. The little house no longer fits. What to do? Now, remember, this is a true story, not a fairytale with magic or a Fairy Godmother. They needed a real life solution. Like we said, they were a building contractor and an interior designer. So, they designed and built on and around the little house that they already owned. Of course. What else would you expect? Unlimited by their imaginations - but limited just a bit by the location of the house on the big lot on which the house stood, they designed a massive addition to the little house that now includes 5 bedrooms (count em!), a family room smack in the middle of the bedrooms on the upper level, a couple of whopping-sized second floor bathrooms - each with two sinks and one with a washer and dryer hook-up in it - and a master suite with a walk-in closet so big you need a map to find your way around. On the main floor they built a mudroom for, well, muddy shoes, winter jackets and backpacks, a super kitchen with granite countertops and a center island with room to serve the kids lots of waffles on the way out the door to school, a great andquot;Great Roomandquot; for gatherings of family and guests, a big formal dining room and half bath. Just in case they wanted to entertain some stuffy guests in a very formal way, they left a formal living room inside the front door. You can use it however you want and need. They attached a large heated 1-car garage because thats all there was room for. You can drive right in and unload the kids and groceries in comfort. They added a large deck for cooking out and a big shed in the back corner of the sizeable lot for storing lawn mowers and other gear and fenced in the back yard to provide a place for the kids to play and to keep their family dog from simply wandering off. The result is a great family home with plenty of room and everything - and we mean virtually everything - new: windows, roof, plumbing, electrical system, heating and air conditioning. Its just move in and enjoy living there. Theyve pretty much finished this place and, as builders and designer generally want to do, theyre looking for another project to design and build. The good news in this story is that it can now be your turn to write your own chapter. Please call us and well show the existing pages and you and figure out the rest - as people do. Come on home. Its time to write!
