Stroll to Elizabeth Park and enjoy the roses, a picnic, free yoga and tennis. 285 North Quaker Lane This traditional center hall Colonial was designed and built in 1928 by architect Henry W. Walsche for John Coleman. The house and garage cost $13,000 to build. Walsche, who came to Connecticut from New York around 1915, built several homes in West Hartford as well as Point OWoods Beach in Old Lyme. He and his wife raised four children in town. His youngest daughter, Flora, married Robert Burian of the famed Burian-Moss Photographers. The house has been home to only three families. John Coleman was a New Orleans native and a successful businessman; Mrs. Coleman was born in Ireland. The Colemans came to Hartford from Toronto and lived in this house until 1937 when they moved to Birmingham, Alabama. (Fun fact: Mr. Coleman was born on July 25, 1882. The current owners were married on July 25, 1881 99 years later!) The house was then owned by Dr. Morris Mancoll, an ophthalmologist, and his wife, Edith. They lived here for 45 years raising four children Tovian, Isadora and twin sons, William and Harry. William and Harry were both doctors in the Hartford area. Lisa and Joe Curran, both West Hartford natives, purchased the home in 1983 and raised their two daughters, Kate and Kelly, here celebrating many birthdays, Christmases, graduations and other family milestones. This is a great house for entertaining! The Currans have made several modifications to the home over the years adding the French doors off the back of the living room, expanding the sunroom, turning a screened porch into the family room, expanding the kitchen with a new back entrance and deck as well as adding the master bath and second floor crafts/laundry room. The master bedroom originally was two bedrooms. The home was featured in the Mark Twain Holiday Tour in 2013.
