    Coronado became a major resort destination in 1888, with the opening of the Hotel Del Coronado. In 1985 two Cays residents built the forerunner of Loews hotel on Crown Island, the Crown Isle Resort Hotel. The Hotel changed hands and was opened as a Loews luxury resort in October 1991. Loews has maintained a special relationship with Cays residents, offering neighborly discounts in restaurants and other services. The open spaces between the Coronado Cays Villages and the sea add to the tranquil beauty of the Cays. There are several playground areas for children to play. Your dogs will especially love living in the Coronado Cays. It appears that the Dogs in the Cays have their own social life. The City of Coronado agreed to an "off leash" play area for local dogs. A portion of South Cays Park is officially an "open-space dog run." Dogs must be under voice control, and owners must clean up after their dogs.
