POWELL HOUSE was built in 1898 by Alfred W. Powell, a lumber dealer and president of the Milford Trust Co. The home is contributing element of the Victorian South Milford Historic District - designated by the City of Milford and listed on the National Register of HIstoric Places. The home has been owned by the family since construction. The current owners are working on a long-range plan for continued preservation. The most recent work was the HVAC, replacing the boiler and radiators with force hot air and central air conditioning. The front porch was restored and a new metal, standing-seam roof was installed. The main roof was completely redone in 2007. The old asphalt roof and the old wooden shingles were removed; the roof rebuilt with plywood; commercial-grade underlayment for ice / water protection; commercial-grade flashing and guttering; and premium shingles: DOMAIN WINSLOW 50-YR rated shingles by ELK PREMIUM BUILDING PRODUCTS.
