We hope you enjoy the Camellia Cottage, a fully furnished single family home, appropriately named in honor of my late father who was a botany professor at Christopher Newport University for 35 years. Conveniently located between Colonial Williamsburg and Virginia Beach, and on your way to the stunning Outer Banks of North Carolina, the Hilton Village neighborhood was built between 1918 and 1921 in response to the need for housing during World War I for employees of Newport News Shipbuilding. It is recognized as the United States' first Federal war-housing project. The Camellia Cottage was built in 1919 and is 1500 square feet. Naturally, it will have a few quirks due to generations of family enjoyment. It is a beautiful property decorated as "modern-vintage", and we hope that you embrace its character and charm during your visit. We welcome short term stays available now through other booking sites and mid- term stays beginning December 1, 2024! For traveling nurses, doctors, professionals, and your families, the cottage is minutes away from Riverside Regional Medical Center, Sentara Hospital, and Mary Immaculate Hospital. The cottage is also close to Ft. Eustis Army Base, Langley Airforce Base, and the Yorktown Naval Weapons Station. The house has a large primary bedroom upstairs equipped with a queen and twin bed. The second bedroom upstairs has a queen bed. The full bathroom with a tub is also upstairs. The upgraded eat-in kitchen is equipped with coffee/ tea supplies, spices, and everything you will need for a home-cooked meal. Additionally, there is a large dining room that is able to seat six guests for an elegant dinner together. Also, downstairs is a lovely living room and sunroom. You can enjoy watching children playing and neighbors walking their dogs. There is a fireplace, so you can relax at night with heating and color-producing faux fire logs. The third bedroom, which doubles as a family room, is downstairs and has a very comfortable sleeper sofa. This room includes a designated workspace, full size washer and dryer, and also exits to the outdoor patio for relaxing around the firepit, grilling, or enjoying what nature has to offer. The home, quaint neighborhood, and all that Hampton Roads has to offer will certainly have you coming back for more! P.S. We welcome guests from all cultures and alternative lifestyles. All utilities and wifi included, short and mid-term rentals welcome, no smoking indoors, no pets or unauthorized overnight guests unless specifically approved in advance, tenant responsible for trash pick-up and lawn maintenance (lawn mower available), two car maximum in driveway not blocking the sidewalk. 15-day notice prior to check in for cancellation and lease termination or a $500 fee will be required. Security deposit may be held until 5 days after vacancy provided there are no damages. Landlord may inspect the property with 24-hour notice or may terminate the lease with 30-day notice for any reason.
