    What's special

This is a short term 2 month furnished rental: March 15 - May 15, 2016 Carefully re-designed as a unique work of art by owner, Kundalini Bennett, and architect, Derek Trost, and hand-built primarily by highly skilled carpenter, Dan Little, over the two year period between 2005 and 2007, this home is an utter dream to live in. The original 1927 Bungalow was lifted two feet in order to finish the lower level of the home, more than doubling the original usable square footage, while maintaining every bit of the historic charm and character, and even adding some. This is an ideal home for someone who appreciates simple uncluttered living, clean lines, and impeccable craftsmanship. As you can see in the photos, no details were spared, from the stained solid fir (reclaimed from local Portland school) woodwork, trim and built-ins, to the copper gutters, flashing and accents. Great care was taken to match all woodwork, cabinetry, hardware, etc. to the original period Bungalow style. Classic Schoolhouse Electric light fixtures, as well as some modern low voltage lighting where appropriate, are all fully dimable. Luxurious hydronic radiant floor heat (on both lower and main levels) is so decadently warm on the feet that you wouldn't even want to wear shoes in this home. Open rain-shower features Portland's local Pratt & Larson handmade art tiles on walls, river rock floor, and soapstone counter-top/accents. Decadent 1930's style pedestal tub accommodates two! Wonderfully compact kitchen has a gas range, built-in Multipure water filter, and solid granite counter top, and is furnished with a drop leaf antique kitchen table and chairs. Gorgeous built-ins in every room for plenty of storage. This home comes furnished with classic 1930's "waterfall-style" handmade mohair furniture (loveseat, armchairs, ottoman & sofa); beautiful solid wood built-in bedroom furniture; clothes washer & gas dryer; Bose lifestyle-48 whole-house sound system with stored music, built-in speakers and RF remotes; integrated sound system extends into the yard (garden speakers); entertainment room is set up for surround sound; DVD/VCR (if you provide a television - house has none); half bath/laundry-utility room on lower level; energy saving on-demand hot water heater; all gas appliances and gas heat; environmentally friendly marmoleum kitchen floor; 100% wool carpet in attic; low VOC paint throughout. Walls, roof and floor are all well insulated. New insulated wood-clad windows on lower level, and restored original "wavy glass" double-hung windows on main level are all fully functional. Hunter Douglass top-down/bottom-up insulating cellular blinds throughout main level. Porches and entry way feature fully dimable lighting. Two lovely triptychs of colorful local art-glass adorn the oriental influenced craftsman style fence built by local woodworker, Patrick Kirkhuff. Secure garden/storage shed and parking for three bicycles; specimen trees and mature landscaping; stone patio for outdoor dining. The entire property is tended only organically, and chemically sensitive individuals will appreciate the fact that only natural/organic cleaning products have been used in the home in the nine years since the renovations were completed. This is a particularly quiet neighborhood, due to the unique configuration of the streets here, and there is always plenty of street parking available right in front of the house. Lovely Laurelhurst Park is a short 4 block walk from the house, and Zupan's gourmet grocery is just 3 blocks away, where you will find many other fun shops and restaurants lining SE Belmont St. , as well as convenient bus service. short term 2 month furnished rental: March 15 - May 15, 2016, no pets, no smoking, no chemicals or strongly scented products such as laundry detergent (owner is chemically sensitive), no shoes indoors (to protect floors)
