Tomas Luis de Victoria ranks among the greatest composers in 16th-century Spain, and he was one of the most significant composers of the Counter-Reformation.. Victoria was not only a composer, but also a skilled organist, singer and a Catholic priest. He is sometimes known as the "Spanish Palestrina" because he may have been taught by the great Italian Renaissance composer, Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina.
