THREE BEDROOM MICHIGAN HOME FOR SALE! This home is located in the City of Iron River, in Iron County which is located in the western Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The city is situated at the southeast corner of Iron River Township, but is administratively autonomous. Iron River was first inhabited by the Chippewa (Ojibway) and Menominee Indians who where doing fur trading in the area since the early 1600s. The Village was first called Namaimo, after the profitable Namaimo Mine. In 1851 a government land Surveyor reported seeing a five foot big outcrop of iron ore on the west face of Stambaugh Hills. Early development of the mining industry led to a few small mines opening up, but the economy relied mostly on lumbering into the late 1800s. Two bachelors acquired land in about 1878, and in 1881 they platted the land, and called it Iron River. The Village was transferred from Marquette County to Iron County in 1884, and it was incorporated as a Village in 1885, and as a City in 1926. The County Seat of Iron County was decided during a high stakes poker game amongst the commissioners. When Iron River was first organized, it was pegged as the county seat. The nearby city of Crystal Falls desperatly wanted this distinction. During the poker game, two representatives from Crystal Falls sneaked out of the game and stole the county records. When the theft was discovered locals wanted to forcibly recover the records. Reason prevailed, and a later referendum upheld this transfer - by only five votes!! (It was rumored that many Chrytal Falls area lumberjacks voted more than once.) The home offered for sale is currently rented. It could become a great Starter Home, or kept as a Rental. It has natural gas hot water heat. It needs some TLC, and is being sold "As Is", "Where Is". No reasonable offer refused! Seller is in the process of remodeling and the price will change accordingly as remodel is finished. Contact Us For A Private Tour of This Property!
