    What's special

One of the largest apartments at the Towers, the finest and most lavish of the landmarked garden apartment complexes located in the Jackson Heights Historic District. Its seven rooms extend roughly sixty feet from front to back, and the apartment has four exposures. Unlike most Towers layouts, the living and formal dining rooms are located along the apartment’s long (northern) exposure. So, to the left of the entry there is a sitting room, with fireplace, that can easily be converted into a fourth bedroom/guest room/office with the addition of French doors. The spacious living room has two tall windows that open out, each with its own “Juliet” balcony. The living room is open to the dining room, forming a huge space of roughly 14’ by 34’. And from the dining room there is a swinging door that leads you to an especially large kitchen. It remains in its 1980s splendor, and awaits your renovation. The kitchen also has sufficient room for an in-unit washer and dryer. The apartment’s central hall leads you to the three bedrooms and two full baths. The two largest bedrooms, each with two exposures, face the lush interior garden: both peaceful and green. The primary bedroom has its own bath. Bedroom "two" has a fabulous view of the garden, and a photo taken from that room is included here. Both bathrooms are mostly original and in good condition. All of the apartment’s walls and ceilings were recently restored and painted. The proportions at the Towers are generous, and buildings of this quality are no longer being built. This apartment retains most of its charming prewar details, and has 9’ ceilings, plaster walls, moldings and wood floors –parquet in the living, dining, and sitting rooms, and oak-strip elsewhere. With just two apartments per floor and built as a fireproof building with cement between each floor, this unit is both private and quiet. Located on the raised first floor, the apartment has four exposures, facing both 80th Street (west) and the lavish interior garden (east and north), with views of leafy green trees on every side. With the apartment comes the use of a private storage unit in the basement. The Towers was designed by Andrew J. Thomas in 1924, and its eight buildings surround a beautiful formal garden (designed by Noel Chamberlain) with two fountains and a baldacchino. It is also the only garden apartment complex with its very own children’s garden/play area at the northern end. This cooperative requires 10% down, is very well maintained, has on-site management, and each building has its own laundry facilities. The Towers is pet friendly; however, subletting is not allowed. Centrally located in the Jackson Heights Historic District, this building is close to restaurants, shopping, the 34th Avenue “Open Street,” and our weekly Greenmarket that is open year-round. And it is just two blocks from the recently expanded and renovated Travers Park. Please call Daniel Karatzas, the listing agent, for an appointment.
