Cozy and funky getaway that is less than 2 hours from Manhattan. Welcome to Cragsmoor, NY. This vibrant artist community sits at 1,800' above sea level and offers amazing views of the Hudson Valley, Rondout Valley and the mighty Catskill Mountains. Founded in 1879 as Evansville and renamed to Cragsmoor in 1893. This little village of less than 500 people was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1996. Nearby structures like the Old Stone Church and the library are a must see. The present owner has totally redone this cottage in a modern, cool style. Nicely sited on a slight knoll with no close neighbors. A small brook gurgles it's way along side of the cottage all year round. There's nothing for you to do here but unpack your clothes, strap on your hiking boots and explore all this amazing area has to offer. Wonderful things like hang gliding on the ridge or hiking at Sams Point, Ice Caves or Verkeerderkill Falls are a bicycle ride away. A must is dinner at nearby Sammy Browns just down the road or head down to the Village of Ellenville offering it's tasty restaurant row and the Shadowland Theater, all just 5 minutes away. World class parks are within easy reach. Search on Minnewaska one time or the Mohonk Preserve. Explore the many farmers markets and the nearby wine trails. Fair warning. This area will start out as a weekend fix but soon will become a full time obsession.
