However, the neighborhood contains a mixture of elderly couples and families with teenagers as well as young married couples. The neighbors are friendly and often offer to help with our yard chores (without being asked) as well as borrowing you any equipment you may not yet possess. After a heavy snow - you may - on some days find that your driveway has already been shoveled or snow blowed before you even leave the house in the morning. On holidays, the neighbors often share cookies or other baked items with one another delivering door to door. The supervisor of our town's police department lives at the end of our block and having his squad car parked on the street in front of his house most of the time gives us a safe feeling that no one passing through would even dare try to cause trouble... It's like a guarantee for peace from outsiders - not to mention the fact that it GUARANTEES everyone coming through to drive slowly and respectfully which give us a great relief for any of the kids who play in the neighborhood. We're 2 minutes from every major store, 2 minutes from every restaurant (Fast-food or family style), 5 minutes from 3 different theaters and 10 minutes from a drive-in theater (Which is great to spend time in during the summer months). 20 minutes from a HUGE flea market where we always find great deals every wednesday, sat. or sun.. And there are churches of every denomination within 10 minutes of our home. The Police station and fire station are 5 blocks away and there is a huge park just 2 1/2 blocks away where most of the action for little leagers and adult softball, etc... takes place (Nice little concession stand too). Then just 3 blocks west is the forest preserve with walking trails and plenty of widlife, picnic tables and lots of fun for the family to enjoy.
