    What's special

The offer is gracious living in the heart of this "teeming nation of nations" - Jackson Heights. Times Square is often called the crossroads of the world, but in his recent IN JACKSON HEIGHTS (2015), Frederick Wiseman, the 85-year-old master of American documentary filmmaking, suggests that that title more rightly belongs to Jackson Heights. This dynamic neighborhood, one of the most culturally diverse communities in the US where 167 languages are spoken, with its multi-everything people in its streets and stores, is what makes a city - and makes it great. Two New York Architects have thoughtfully and meticulously transformed this historic and spacious top floor apartment into a beautiful home for contemporary living. They have removed walls for flow and daylight (which streams in from all four directions through twelve large windows). The views (noted on the plans) include great views of the gardens and better than peekaboo views of Manhattan from the bedrooms. The new Entry Hall floor has honed slabs of Indiana limestone, recessed LED downlights and a suspended translucent muslin daylight screen with a blackened steel frame to allow sun from the kitchen window to penetrate into the entry area. The new custom Kitchen, open to the Dining and Living spaces, is a magnificent machine for cooking-in. Work surfaces are honed bluestone at the peninsula and solid surfacing at the sink and bar. Floors are limestone slabs which flow from the Entry Hall. The new appliances, top-rated Thermador, are all carefully and aesthetically integrated into the kitchen design. The renovated Dining and Living Rooms have original herringbone oak floors and a wood-burning fireplace with a limestone hearth and blackened steel surround matching the screen from the Entry Hall. Bathrooms are fully renovated with new porcelain tile walls and limestone floor in the large bathroom which flows from the hall. The renovated Bedrooms have refinished hardwood floors, re-plastered walls and ceilings. The Master Bedroom includes new and expanded full-height closets. Regarding storage, the unit comes with a dedicated 20 SF full height storage room in the basement. If you don't know about the Towers, it was built in 1923-25, and encases some of the largest apartments in the city; it is perhaps the most iconic and sought after Co-op in Jackson Heights. It includes very generous private gardens (with several fountains, lawns, as well as Children's and vegetable gardens managed by an active Garden committee). The buildings' entries have ornate architectural and sculptural elements such as iron and glass double doors with fanlights, stone trim at the towers, and stone griffins flanking the garden gates. It has a live-in super, laundry facilities, elevator and is pet friendly. It is in a prime location, close to all local amenities including Travers Park and its wonderful Sunday Greenmarket. Regarding subway access, note that the Towers is close to both the #7 81st Street Station as well as the MTA transit hub at Roosevelt Avenue (E, F, M, R and 7).
