The Mary Herron House (built ca. 1885 as a Queen Anne) was expanded in 1924 by the architects Tallmadge & Watson, who were awarded the project over a competing proposal by Frank Lloyd Wright. In 2008, the interior was restored to preservation standards and underwent a complete electrical, mechanical and structural modernization; that same year, the property was granted Landmark status by the State of Illinois.
