This special and grand home has been maintained in all its Victorian glory with high ceilings, original woodwork, and beautiful stained glass throughout. It calls to mind the style and elegance of a bygone era. Owned by only two families since it was built circa 1890, this single-family home at 340 West 84th Street/Edgar Allan Poe Street is available for sale for the first time in more than 50 years. The brownstone is 18' wide and is located within the Riverside-West End Historic District. It is one in a row of nine brownstones built in the Romanesque Revival style by architect Joseph H. Taft. Garden Floor: The garden floor is accessible via an entrance under the stoop, as well as the main stairwell from the parlor floor. The garden floor is configured as a library with a door leading to the eat-in kitchen and family room. The library is lit by a beautiful 1930s original glass Czechoslovakian chandelier. The large eat-in kitchen contains beautiful hand-crafted wood cabinets with a door leading to a rear staircase to the parlor floor's butler's pantry. Off the kitchen you can also access a large rear deck and South facing garden. Parlor Floor: Enter the parlor floor up the stone stoop and thru the historic carved face keyed arched entrance, with double leaf wood doors and round arched stained glass fanlight above main entrance. A gracious, and well-appointed parlor floor is the hallmark of Victorian living. The formal living room with original woodwork, decorative fireplace and shutters flows into the rear dining room with a wall of windows overlooking the deck and garden. The parlors' hand painted decorated ceiling is original to the house and has been painstakingly conserved and restored by professional artisans. Both rooms have beautiful original wood floors, and original fireplaces with hand-carved mantelpieces. Off the dining room through the stained-glass windowed door, you have the butler's pantry with access to the kitchen downstairs. The butler's pantry still holds the old dumbwaiter that could be restored. Third Floor: The third floor host the primary bedroom and bathroom in the rear creating your own private alcove. At the front of the third floor, you have a sitting room and office area. The rooms have original fireplaces and original woodworked cabinets. Fourth Floor: The uppermost floor of this home contains four more bedrooms, two full bathrooms and laundry. One of the bathrooms as well as the staircase both have skylights. The skylight above the staircase has a beautiful stain glass panel. Cellar: The cellar with 7'8" ceiling heights contains mechanicals and ample storage areas. A bit of trivia: this home is located on Edgar Allan Poe Street (West 84th Street) where Poe wrote one of his most legendary works, "The Raven." Also available for sale are the contiguous houses of 342 West 84th Street and 344 West 84th Street.
