Built 1725 & added on 1820/30. House became Georgian style. Name: Maybury Hill Was originally on 300 acres. Reduced to 3.2 in 1994. National Historic landmark registered with the Federal government. Joseph Hewes was born at Maybury Hill and later signed the Declaration of Independence for North Carolina. House was painstakingly restored to its original condition in 1990. Many of the original fixtures, floors, plaster walls, beams etc were Kept. The property has specimen trees and lovely gardens with a pergola.
