"The Melrose" - In the mid-1870s, a small village was founded at the base of the Blue Ridge mountains by a young man from Pittsburgh. Marketing the unique "Thermal Belt" of the region, the town quickly attracted prosperous, educated northerners. As their creativity combined with southern hospitality and pace of life, the town evolved into a destination unique to the South at the time. At the center of Tryon sits arguably not only the first residence in this new village, but the very spot the town itself was designed.
