The area is littered with a significant amount of gang members unfortunately. With the majority of them hanging outside of their homes and on sidewalks giving people intimidating looks all the time. Though police presence is high in some areas, these degenerates continue to be a nuisance despite being seen in handcuffs and let off with a slap of the wrist on a weekly basis. This is by NO means an exaggeration. Probably one of the most concerning things as a long time resident and a parent of 2 growing children is the steady increase of drug use and the lack of fear and respect that these young people display when committing said offenses. The smell gets in the air so bad at times that I need to close my windows to hide it from my kids and to keep me from getting a headache. Our schools are at or just above average. Retail stores are abundant. But are concentrated it areas not too sporadic. Meaning some must travel a distance and some live just across the street. Traffic can be heavy at major roadway intersections and with I-10 (San Bernardino) Fwy. running right through town including I-605 (San Gabriel River Fwy.) and CA Route 60 (Pomona Fwy.) in south El Monte, areas near exits and entrances tend to get a little crowded but overall not too bad. Other than that, this is the PERFECT place to live...
