In colonial times, the Connecticut River was a beehive of commercial activity. Brockways Ferry was no exception. A landing with a general store, served the then considerable river traffic providing area residents access to goods and markets in which to sell their produce. Today, the quiet road serves the relatively few residents now living on the street. It runs the short distance from Joshuatown Rd to the Connecticut River. The classic cape looks across farm fields to wooded hills. Although you cannot see the river from the house, it is only a short distance away. The Town Historian traced the lineage of the house to Levi Luther circa 1785. Over the years, an addition was added to create a cozy den with cathedral ceiling, beams and a fireplace. Another provided space for the eat-in kitchen and most recently, a third created a main floor master bedroom suite. Inside, a charming living room with two fireplaces runs across the front of the original house. Sitting in this lovely room with exposed beams, detailed wood paneling and wide board floors, one can look across the road at sheep grazing in a field. Coming in from Joshuatown Road, there are only two houses on the right each an antique farmhouse with outbuildings and fields. As you can see from the exterior images, the additions were well thought out and do not compete with the simple symmetry of the cape. The house is nestled into the side of hill.If you are looking for peace and serenity in a rural setting and you love colonial architecture, you owe it to yourself to see the Levi Luther house.
