The house that stood on this lot was built by freed slave and first Black Dentist of Ohio, John Turner in 1880. He was born in Virginia, 1830, came to Ohio, married there in 1859 and built the house that stood here for his family in 1880. It was a gray, two story house with two rooms on the first floor, a kitchen, and a bedroom upstairs. This house was also the birthplace of the first black navy SEAL William Harvey Goines, John Turner, the first black dentist in Ohio's great grandson. This property has been the home of John Turner's family for over 100 years, since he built it in 1880, less than two decades after he had been freed in Virginia and moved to Ohio.
