    What's special

This is a simple ranch on one floor with the exception of a "sunken living room" that is located in an open concept space off the kitchen area. Roughly half the house is REAL pine paneling and in the den (fireplace location), the ceiling is also paneled. The windows are very large and there is a ton of light. The rising sun shines into the kitchen, the south/southwest and north/northeast bedrooms. The carport is on the north (front) "corner" of the house. There is a privacy fence along 3/4 of one boundary line and a regular wire fence along the other; thick woods provide privacy in the back yard. There have been no updates here; consequently, the original K cabinets, cupboards, counters, farmhouse sink and linoleum are still in place and the one BA also has the original tub/shower. Though Oakhurst is a safe neighborhood, there is a "mac-daddy" built-in alarm system for added peace of mind. It's pleasant and comfortable "as is" but if someone had a desire to make major improvements here, it has the potential to be a showplace; there certainly is plenty of room to add a room or several. As it is, it's a charmer. Neighborhood Description Old, established neighborhood with post-WWII, primarily relatively small brick houses on +/- 85X100 lots. The homes and yards are mostly well maintained and inhabited by either older and younger folks just starting out. There are children here but I'd say a rather small percentage. There is an Oakhurst Community Group that is active in helping improve and preserve the security and quality of the area. Neighbors are friendly but stay mostly to themselves. I rarely see a dog running loose and there are many who walk, jog and ride bicycles around the quiet streets here. Mature trees are abundant and lovely. There is a busy train track nearby but most train traffic passes very early in the morning or later in the evening; the noise isn't an issue. This neighborhood is very well situated, close enough to Uptown and within the city limits but enough "country" to be pleasant. You can get anywhere you need to go very quickly unless it's peak traffic time.
