The house An 1840s farm hand's cottage, 800 square feet, on a quiet residential street in the West End. It's a whole house; not a basement, not an apartment, not an annex. You can see the ocean from the street and the downstairs window, and Harborview Park is at the end of the road. Walk score 90. Ceilings are low eight feet at the highest. The staircase is narrow and steep. The bedroom ceilings slope where the beds are. The floors aren't level. There's no dishwasher, and no outdoor space beyond a bench and the back steps. Everything that matters is modern: solid heat, air conditioning, hot water, fast internet. But if you want a level floor and a big kitchen, this isn't the house. The neighbourhood is a real one. Portland is a working city with a working wharf, not a resort town. There's some street art. You may occasionally see someone sleeping on a bench in the park. Maine has the lowest crime rate in the country and this is a safe, friendly street we just don't want anyone arriving expecting a tourist bubble. Comes fully furnished Six months, 1 November to 30 April (flexibility to extend to June) Utilities. Take them in your own name and pay the providers directly, or add our flat $525/month package covering gas, electricity, water, sewer and the 462 Mbps internet based on past useage. Flat rate, no metering, no reconciliation, no nasty January bill. Your choice. Parking. A dedicated spot directly behind the house, rented from the lot owner and plowed all winter, at $100/month. A second spot may be available. Or park free on the street with a City residential permit. Pets. Genuinely welcome with references, $100/month. Assistance animals are not pets and are never charged a fee. Cleaning. We pay for a professional clean before you move in. A $125 cleaning fee applies when you leave. Winter. We arrange plowing for the parking lot. Shoveling the short walkways is the tenant's responsibility. (We provide a shovel and salt) Trash Rubbish. The City requires purchased Portland trash bags; curbside recycling is free. We provide wheelie bins.
