    What's special

This house is located in one of the most convenient parts of San Mateo, with an easy commute (WFH in COVID is almost over, remember Traffic?) to San Francisco or Silicon Valley, as well as a great walk score to shops and parks. Hillsdale Caltrain is also just a short walk away! Situated on a quiet non-through street between el Camino and Alameda de las Pulgas, you have the ease of access but without the noise. 92/101/280 are all super easy to access. The house was originally built in 1931 (1200 sq ft), but we have heavily renovated it while still trying to maintain the vintage charm. I always hated a few small pictures of a house I wanted to rent, so I will try to provide as many pictures and as much description as I can. You'll see in the pictures that this house has a spacious front living room area, with high ceilings and a huge, south facing window. The fireplace is functional, and the way the living room steps up in to the hall and dining room makes for a nice family space. The arches and molding are classic architectural details which aren't found in newer homes or apartments, as are the hardwood floors throughout, and the completely renovated from scratch bathroom is a brand new vintage recreation. This house features two nice-sized bedrooms on the second floor. The master looks over the back yard, and the second bedroom has great light facing the front of the house. The kitchen is renovated with stainless steel appliances and hood, new countertops, and vintage-style backsplash to go with the original wood cabinetry (we kept the solid wood cabinets). The kitchen opens up to a breakfast nook/room in the back of the house with sliding glass doors to the deck and rear yard. The house has a freshly redone backyard, accessible through the breakfast nook or through the back part of the garage. There are citrus trees (which produce a LOT of fruit), a beautiful pergola with two lovely purple Wisteria (just now starting to bloom) climbing up and over - perfect for patio furniture, and grilling on the weekends or evenings. The house has a wide driveway as well as a very deep one car garage. The garage has ample room for a gym or ample storage in the back part, even if you park in the front section. There's also the second, redone full bathroom in the lower level/garage which doubles as a laundry room. You'll see in the pictures the Corian laundry counter, as well as the spots for full size front loading laundry units (hookup for an electric washer and dryer). This house also has a LOT of storage. There is a neat little cubby in both the kitchen hallway as well as above the stairs, and nice sized closets. There's even a full built-in cupboard in the breakfast nook, as well. Frequently, rentals get neglected, but that is not the case with this house. It has a new furnace with a Nest thermostat, as well as all new ducts. We recently reinsulated the whole roof (from the inside, to R-38 level) so it stays cool in the summer and warm in the winter. We just completed a full (as in we ripped out every part of the bathroom at started from scratch) bathroom remodel. The bathroom has vintage custom, Art Deco style fixtures and tile, and has great features like a thermostatic shower valve (where you set the temperature, and then turn on/off the water, instead of trying to wiggle the valve to the right "spot"). We have replaced fences, put in new windows in the breakfast nook and the dining room. The house also has updated electrical services (new from the pole). Lastly, the entire interior was repainted in January 2021, and the whole exterior of the house was repainted in the spring of 2020. The layout of the house is also well set up for Working from Home if that is your thing. There is a door to the dining room that closes it off from the kitchen, which can make it in to a huge office, and the bedrooms are separated (front/back of the house) as well. I'll also call out that when searching for rentals, it is really important to look around at the neighborhood. This neighborhood is really special. Kids play basketball in the middle of the street, the whole street (and all the streets around) are single family homes, and you are far enough from El Camino to make it nice and quiet. The Carey School and Serra High School are right around the corner, and there are some incredible parks (check out Beresford Park, for example their play structure is world class) within a short walk! You can also walk to the homey restaurants on 25th Ave or to the Farmer's Market hosted there 2x a week. Pets Negotiable! Owner pays for gardener (who is excellent, and has planted and cared for all of the plants for years), Tenant pays all the rest of the utilities. One year lease. Absolutely no Smoking or Drugs. Tenant must carry renter's insurance. Deposit is one month's rent, applicants subject to Credit Check. If you are interested, please send a note, and we can arrange a time to show the house. COVID rules apply (distance, everyone wears masks, etc) but I am able to show the house in person as needed.
