Single Family Home for sale by owner in New Orleans, LA 70122. The house was built around 1902 by Joseph Solari, the owner of the famous gourmet grocery store (Solari's) once located on the corner of the 200 block of Bourbon Street. As the story goes, he told his wife that she was going to have a home just like on St. Charles Avenue, so he installed a cypress double door in the front of the house with beveled edge windows, most of which are still intact. There are a pair of porcelain tiles on the first concrete landing above the sidewalk that bear the initials J.S. The open-air front porch is steel-reinforced concrete. I purchased the house in 1977 from an architect who had recently re-decorated the house including converting the half in-ground basement to a den, bedroom, laundry room, and small bath with a permanent shower stall. When the footers were installed in that steel-reinforced concrete floor, they apparently used explosive anchors to "shoot" the footers as anchors for the studs.
