    What's special

Minutes from downtown Birmingham, Forest Park is known as a neighborhood of well educated, eclectic, community minded and, for the most part well-off folks. Beautiful homes line the streets of this great historic neighborhood. Avondale is very similar but a bit more affordable and contains much late 19th and early mid-20th century architecture that reflects the development of the area from 1890 to 1948, according to the National Register of Historic Places. Take a stroll through the hip neighborhood where the retail community invites residents and visitors into its doors during the monthly Third Friday in Forest Park Village. It's a chance for neighbors to socialize and people who can't make it to stores during regular business hours to experience the creative community. Art gallerie Nakedartusa.com, Full Circle which sells Made in the USA, handmade, antique or fairly traded home goods, and Zoeshop.com keep their doors open late. Restaurants Littlesavannah.com, Silvertroncafe.us and the cafe within gourmet market Vrichards.net offer specials and wine tastings. Even The Pink House, a center for children's music programs, is in on the action with a drum circle. On the weekends you can head over to the highlandparkgolf.com and catch up on your golf or tennis game or to the newly renovated Avondale Park and take a walk around the lake. In the summers come out for Movie Night, Jazz in the Park, and lots of weekend fundraisers and events. Walk down to the Painted Shovel and check out all of their unique crafts and home wares. At night check out Botttletree Cafe for live music and vegetarian dishes (http://www.thebottletree.com/contacts.html), Parkside for their great patio and appetizers and the up and coming historic district of Avondale with Avondale Brewing Company, Saw's Soul Kitchen and 41st Street Pub and Aircraft Sales.
