The town has a post office, grocery store, cafe. bar & grill, pizza place, gas station, fire department, library, and a Pre-K-12 school district. The town hosts the county fair every year, as well as a fall festival, and a lot of community activities. It is a quiet town with little to no crime, the beautiful Elk River boarding the town, as well as hunting and fishing opportunities with more than 8 large watersheds and lakes, such as Elk City and Fall River Wildlife Refuge all within a short drive. Wild Turkey, flat head catfish, bass, crappie, duck, geese, white tailed deer, trapping, and many others. Elk County is the white tail deer capitol of Kansas, and sits on the southern end of the Flint Hills within the agriculture valley. There is also handicapped and general public transportation available to Winfield, Wichita, Andover, and Parsons, as well as Independence KS. It is a great community to raise children as well as to retire with activities close at hand. The town also offers many churches and an active Senior Center.
