The Charming Crooked Cottage?
Sold completely furnished.
Some homes are simply a place to live. Others tell a story. The Charming Crooked Cottage has been telling one since 1925.
Tucked into a mature neighborhood at 503 E. 17th Street, this thoughtfully designed 3-bedroom, 1-bath cottage offers nearly 900 square feet of warmth, character, and timeless style. Every room has been intentionally curated with cozy textures, warm wood tones, soothing greens, custom built-ins, and inviting gathering spaces that feel more like the pages of a home magazine than a typical house listing.
Unlike most homes, this one is being offered almost completely furnished. Over $63,000 in furnishings, appliances, workshop equipment, lawn equipment, outdoor living spaces, décor, and everyday essentials are included with the sale. Three furnished bedrooms, a stocked kitchen, multiple Smart TVs, workshop tools, outdoor furniture, pool equipment, and so much more are ready for their next owners.
Step outside and you'll discover your own backyard retreat featuring a custom pergola with string lights, an 8-foot stock tank pool, an in-ground trampoline, raised garden beds, a workshop, and multiple spaces designed for slow mornings, family gatherings, and evenings spent under the lights.
Now, about the name…it’s Charming. It’s crooked.
Built in 1925 and proudly a little crooked, this cottage settled many decades ago, long before we purchased it, and it hasn't changed since we’ve lived here (2008).
As we prepared to sell, we invited two independent foundation contractors to evaluate the home. Interestingly, without prompting, both shared similar observations. While the foundation is certainly old, neither expressed concerns about the home's structural integrity based on their evaluations. Both also commented that the exceptionally dense soil surrounding the foundation has helped support it over time, almost like a natural cast. We have never experienced water intrusion through the foundation during our ownership.
Rather than trying to hide what makes this home unique, we've embraced it. Every old home has imperfections. We believe this one has personality. Every old cottage has a story. Ours just leans into it a little.
Because the home is being sold completely furnished and as-is, it offers an exceptional opportunity for someone seeking a turnkey primary residence, a furnished second home, or an investment property ready for short- or mid-term rental use. The furnishings will transfer with the sale through a separate bill of sale at closing.
The Charming Crooked Cottage isn't trying to be a brand-new home.
It's something far more difficult to find.
A home with character, warmth, and a story that's ready for its next chapter.
What the owner loves about this home
Some of our favorite things about The Charming Crooked Cottage aren't inside the walls at all.
It's the simple moments that have made this house feel like home.
We love being just one block from Bryant Elementary, where it's an easy walk to school, and only a short stroll from three neighborhood parks. During the summer, you can hear the familiar ping of baseball bats from the nearby ball fields, a soundtrack that somehow makes warm evenings feel even more nostalgic.
One of our favorite places is the backyard. Whether it's sipping hot apple cider under the pergola with the twinkle lights glowing on a crisp fall evening, gathering friends for a barbecue, cooling off in the stock tank pool on a hot Nebraska afternoon, or laughing around the fire pit long after the sun goes down, this yard has been the backdrop for so many of our family's best memories.
The in-ground trampoline has brought endless hours of fun, but it has another secret. After dark, it's one of our favorite places to lay back, look up, and watch the stars.
When we want to get out for a walk or bike ride, it's easy to hop onto the hike and bike trail and head toward The Archway. It's one of those little conveniences that has become part of our routine and one of the reasons we've loved this neighborhood so much.
We've poured our hearts into making this home warm, welcoming, and full of life. More than anything, we hope the next owners experience the same joy, laughter, and quiet moments here that our family has over the years.
