The house is a brick salt-box with light gathering corner windows. The entire first floor is barrier free and features a large Master BR with 2 closets (walk in & linen), a galley-style gourmet kitchen with new soapstone counter tops, a formal dining room with a wet bar and large living room. The Master Bath features a barrier free shower, new tile and custom built-in shelves (2003). That year, we also replaced the aging furnace with an energy efficient unit. Storage includes 2 closets at the entry, 2 storage areas flanking the Master Bath door and built-in shelves in the Living Room. The Kitchen w/ Brookhaven Cabinets, Dining Room and Master BR were completely renovated in 2000. All windows in the front of the house were replaced with Marvin double-pane windows and the basement windows were replaced with Anderson double-pane. The hardwood floors were refinished at the same time. In the summer of 2004 we added blown-in insulation to all exterior walls and the attic. In the fall of 2006 we finished the windows by replacing all the windows on the back of the house, including the MBR windows (see photos). Again we used top quality Marvin Windows. The custom black-out shades in the MBR will remain. At the same time, the stairway to the 2nd floor received a new wool runner that is also used in the second floor hall. Again, we chose quality over price and if you take off your shoes and walk up and down the stairs, you'll understand why. Neighborhood Description The neighborhood & town are closely tied to RPI – we see our neighbors walking to work every day. Troy is a wonderful small town with an intact 19th Century business district that is experiencing extensive redevelopment. A thriving antiques district has grown up along River Street. We also have a weekly farmers market that is the envy of all communities around. Anther sign of health is the growing number of fine restaurants opening downtown. The "art scene" is thriving as young artists move to Troy. The Arts Center in downtown Troy is a hub for artists of all types. We are perched on the rim of the Hudson River Valley with wonderful views only a short walk away. Another, often overlooked, advantage of Troy is that it is at the heart of a transportation hub. Interstates 84 and 90 cross just to our south for easy travel to the North, South, East, or West. We are about 1.5 hours from some of Vermont's and New York's best winter sports areas and a easy train ride into NYC's Penn Station. Best of all, we live about 15 minutes from the Albany International Airport. If you travel by air, you will love living in Troy.
