MICHIGAN WOODED RECREATIONAL VACANT LAND PARCEL FOR SALE!! This 19-Acre property is located in east central Ontonagon County in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan - where camping and outdoor recreation, over the years, has provided relaxation for many! The property is located about six miles east of the Villages of Greenland, and Mass City. Ontonagon County is named after the Ontonagon River and said to be derived from a Native American word Nondon-organ, meaning "hunting river". The name first appeared as a name for a river called Nantounagon on a 1670 French map. Alternatively, it is said to be derived from the Ojibwa onagon, which means "dish" or "bowl". About a mile to the east, down the highway is access to the Ottawa National Forest. This forest covers 988,000 acres and provides public access to lakes, rivers and streams, waterfalls, wetlands, old growth forests, as well as wildlife - whitetail deer, bear, and birds are abundant. A seasonal creek - tributary of the Firesteel River flows along the southern end of the parcel. If you love mining history, Mass City/Greenland and the fabulous Adventure Copper Mine is in this vicinity and now offers underground tours. Old copper mine workings dot the Mass bluffs. Most are accessible only by poor roads. Rockland Mines and Townsite mines are a short drive away, and two of the richest copper mines in the county, the National and the Minnesota are also located near by. Not much remains of either except for their "rock" piles, but the persistent and perceptive explorer can find locations that whisper the work of our ancestors. The parcel offered for sale is Wooded. Trees Common In The Area Include: American basswood, Balsam fir, Eastern hemlock, Green ash, Northern white cedar, Quaking aspen, Red maple, Sugar maple, White ash, and Yellow birch. If you are looking for a nice rural parcel for your U.P. Cabin or Year-round home, call to arrange your private tour today!
