Located in an ancient Hawaiian neighborhood of Hilo, Waiakea Uka is in the foothills of Mauna Kea, where there are few cars and it feels like living in the country, yet it is just 5 minutes from the University, 20 minutes from the Hospital, and 15 minutes from Target. You would have your own off-street parking, right in front of your private entrance. The light and tropical winds come flooding in through every window. It's like being in the middle of a botanical garden, with an amazing variety of colorful flowers and birdsong. The home sits at 1000-foot elevation, so the air is cool and comfortable, high above the humidity of Hilo. This private unfurnished 2 bedroom, 1 bath apartment has been recently remodeled with a new kitchen, new washer/dryer, spacious stainless steel (SS) refrigerator, SS double sink, SS gas stove with oven, microwave, plenty of cupboards, and a good-size stacked washer-dryer. Contains two spacious bedrooms with generous double closets and a huge bathroom, double vanity, cupboards, and a large walk-in shower. Rental Features Include: Hi Speed WiFi (Shared) Electric, Gas, Trash Pickup, Sewer and Water Private Stacked Washer and Dryer Yard Service Off-street parking The county tap water comes from a watershed on the slopes of Mauna Loa, with no added chlorine because it's high in bromide, which naturally purifies the water. Stroll through the gardens or walk safely along the country road. Pick your own oranges, starfruit and bananas. Keep your windows open and the tropical breezes will blow through your home. No A/C needed at this elevation. If you'd like to put in your own garden, there's plenty of space for that. This apartment is unfurnished, but we could temporarily provide a full-size queen air bed with bedding and a table and 2 chairs, if necessary. The property includes a Bamboo Bathhouse, with an outdoor shower, a huge tub, and an area with a massage table, all nestled into an exotic grove of bamboo, hibiscus, antherium and vanilla vines. It's also a perfect outdoor meditation spot. Neighborhood sounds: there are some coqui frogs and wild roosters. There are wild boar in the forest. There may be an occasional cockroach in the house because we do not use strong poisons. There is no bus service, so having a vehicle is advantageous. No smoking, drugs or excessive alcohol.
