Rare 1997-Built 5-Bedroom on an Oversized Private Lot — Space, Privacy & a Backyard Oasis
Welcome to 583 N Erie Avenue — a rare find in Lindenhurst: a spacious 5-bedroom, 2-bath home built in 1997, offering approximately 2,186 square feet of well-maintained living space in a neighborhood where most homes date to the 1950s. Newer construction means modern framing, a smarter layout, and systems you won't find in the typical Lindy capes and ranches.
Beyond the five bedrooms, additional finished flex rooms give you room to grow — ideal for a home office, gym, playroom, or guest space. Families needing real square footage will find it here.
Step outside and you'll understand what makes this property special. The oversized lot backs to open space — no rear neighbors — offering privacy that's nearly impossible to find on Long Island. Summers are made for the above-ground pool with its custom cedar deck, and the 1,000 sq ft vegetable garden, ringed by established berry plants, produces season after season.
Comfort meets efficiency inside: a 24,000 BTU mini-split system delivers whisper-quiet heating and cooling year-round, backed by oil baseboard heat for the coldest snaps, plus an energy-saving heat pump water heater that keeps utility bills low. An attached garage adds storage and convenience.
All this in the heart of Lindenhurst — minutes to the LIRR (under an hour to Penn Station), village shops and restaurants on Wellwood Avenue, and the South Shore beaches.
Homes like this — newer build, big private lot, flexible space, turn-key outdoor living — almost never come to market here. Shown by appointment. For Sale By Owner.
What the owner loves about this home
What I love most is the backyard. There are no neighbors behind us, so it feels like our own private retreat — summer mornings picking berries in the garden, afternoons in the pool, evenings on the cedar deck. The vegetable garden has fed us for years. Because the house was built in 1997, we've never dealt with the constant repairs neighbors in older homes talk about, and the mini-splits keep it comfortable year-round for surprisingly little money.
Our children went to Daniel Street Elementary and thrived there — caring, dedicated teachers who knew our kids by name. Don't let online ratings fool you; our experience with the schools here has been wonderful.
One of our family's favorite quirks: we're near Republic Airport, and every couple of years the Blue Angels perform at Jones Beach — they loop directly over our backyard on takeoff and landing. This year they flew for the July 4th 250th-anniversary celebration and the kids watched the whole show from the pool deck. Republic even hosts pilot meet-and-greets. Day to day it's quiet — Republic has no commercial airlines, just small Cessnas and the occasional private jet — but on airshow weekends we have the best seats on Long Island. It's been an amazing place to raise a family.
