This incredible building located just a few blocks from Downtown Brenham was the First Public High School in Texas! Brenham Independent School District was established as the first Independent School District Texas under the Landmark School Law of 1875. Erected in 1883 the building was constructed of 15 inch brick walls, cedar beams, and plaster mixed with cow hair. All of the windows and doors featured marble arches and sills, which still remain. (see attachments for full history) What is believed to be the original hardwood floors are in fantastic condition throughout most of the building. You can even see German markings on one of the walls from it's German language class days! The building is situated on 0.435 acres and is truly a sight to be seen! The property entered into the National Register of Historic Places in 1990 and has remained on the registry since. So much wonderful potential for this piece of Texas history!!
