West University Place (http://www.westu.org) is a separate city surrounded by the larger Houston city. It is known as one of the safest and resident-friendly neighborhood within Houston metro. Many residents work at nearby Texas Medical Center and Rice University. West U has its own police force and fire department serving the 5,500 households within its city limit. While Houston metro has no zoning law, West U residential plots are deed-restricted to residential only. There are several daycare facilities within the city limit and in nearly Bellaire. West University Elementary is also considered one of the best in Houston metro.
