Our home is a traditional New England salt-box cape with a large modern addition. The main floor has:
- a large custom kitchen with a peninsula snack-bar with four bar stools and both a full-sized refrigerator and a full-sized freezer
- a dining room next to the kitchen
- a over-sized master suite with a walk-in closet, full laundry, and full ensuite bathroom with full walk-in shower
- another room which either can be a second bedroom or an office/den
- a living room with crown molding and a sunny picture window
- a two-car attached garage off of the kitchen
The upstairs has two good-sized bedrooms with closets, a hall linen closet, and a full bathroom with a tub/shower combination.
The asphalt driveway leads to the back yard, a two-car parking tab, and the two-car attached garage.
The back yard has a sizable flagstone patio, a storage shed, and a big raised U-shaped garden box.
The huge basement is partially finished (over-sized potential new room with direct driveway access) and offers ample storage, easy access to mechanicals. In 2006 all plumbing pipes and electrical lines (with 200-amp service) were replaced. In 2022 a new natural gas American Standard HVAC with central forced-air two-zone heating and air conditioning was added.
The 2006 addition got a new roof then, and the front original section of the home received a new 50-year architectural shingle roof in 2017. The house is equipped with a state-of-the-art security and fire monitoring system as well as flood lights with cameras in the front and back yards as well as over the garage. The cameras are great for monitoring deliveries and seeing who is at the door. We also have a digital entry pad on the front door allowing access to our home as needed.
In the front yard a lilac bush and Japanese flowering cherry tree were added by 2010 and new front shrubs and mulch beds were added in 2026.
What the owner loves about this home
Our home is a true oasis on a quiet one-block long street in North Hartford. It really is a unique gem in the city. We purchased the house as a salt-box cape in 2006 and completely remodeled it as well as adding a large new addition to the house. At the same time we added an over-sized attached two-car garage, a new asphalt driveway, and a tab for two extra parking spaces. In the new addition, the kitchen and master suite on the first floor were both extended to be quite large and a nice dining room was added next to the kitchen. For future growth, we also put a new section of basement with 9' ceilings under the addition. It is studded, insulated, and has electric outlets and lights installed, ready to be finished into whatever type of space you would like. The upstairs has two good-sized remodeled bedrooms with huge walk-in closets and a full bathroom between them.
In 2018, we added a large beautiful custom flagstone (from Western Mountain in PA) patio for entertaining in the back yard with lovely tree cover, a good-sized storage shed with double-door access on a cement foundation, and an ample U-shaped garden box which is 3.5 feet high for easy-on-your-back access. Finally in 2026 we installed a brand-new mulched shrub area across the front of the house to accent the Japanese Cherry tree and Lilac bush.
We have plans to move out of state, but we will dearly miss our lovely home and the wonderful neighbors we have befriended over these last 20 years.
