Originally the Mine Office for the Zeile Mine, a gold mine in production until the 1920's when the government shut them down. In the original public areas, ornate scoll-work, dental block and trim adorn the walls and 14ft ceilings. The house was rented out sporatically untill my family bought it in 1962. The upstairs was converted from an open attic into three large bedrooms, a sitting area, a full bath, and attick area as well as raise the back portion of the roof to allow for a set of french doors that lead to a balcony and stairs to the back patios. The house, while it does have some victorian influences, is built along the lines of German architecture of the late 19th century. Tall, double hung windows pierce the 18" thick walls around the house allowing filtered light in from the wrap-around porch.
