We are pleased to be offering this majestic being of a set of earthen dwellings to the community for your consideration as a rental. This 1800 sq foot Earthship plus additional strawbale out building sits on 6 acres which back up onto BLM land and look out to Sugarloaf across the valley. Starlink internet and all utilities included. This space could be offered furnished either wholly or partially (our preference) or unfurnished. We have had the home on Air B&B / VRBO for several years and while it has been a wonderful opportunity to educate folks about what is possible through green and artistic building, it is now time for her to land more so in the care of people who want to truly steward her systems and land. It is technically a one bedroom (queen size space for a bed), as well as a small sleeping loft above the kitchen area, there is also a loft (or an office/yoga or meditation perch) above the bedroom- see ladder in pictures- that could work for one older child that can manage a ladder. Because of the unique systems (grey water systems, indoor gardens, earthen walls, composting toilets, etc.), it is very important that we find the best fit for the home's needs and for our own. We are looking for a person or 2 mature people who are: Committed to eco-friendly living. This includes chemical-free and fragrance free living in regard to cleaning, gardening, personal care, pest control and land management. Essential oil use is fine. Curious, devoted and passionate to learn more about earthship systems or already versed in green building and living. This space is well-suited for a remote worker, artist, homemaker, gardener, student or someone who just likes their space away from town. It is 22 minutes above downtown Boulder up 4 Mile Canyon. Financially stable and able to provide both 2 years of verifiable income as well as the ability to pay first and last months' rent as well as a deposit that would cover damage to the gardens and/or soil. Strictly pet free! Due to the earthen walls as well as the extensive indoor garden beds, pets are not a match for this home, including as visitors. Willing to allow wellness checks here and there (of course scheduled ahead with you) to ensure health of the soil and systems and to support you with any questions or maintenance. Have a 4WD or an AWD vehicle and are willing to have the last portion of the road be a bit of a climb. It's south-facing and melts quickly in the winter. We will likely have a neighbor manage plowing for a small fee which we may cover depending on lease negotiations and needs. For longer lease tenants: willing to do light tree and plant work and to keep outdoor space mitigated for fire prevention. We would help, as needed, with larger projects. We would love to have folks who want to learn to build Hugel mounds with these materials, as well. There is a secondary straw bale structure and hot tub set 70 feet or so up another driveway. This structure includes another queen sized bed, a composting toilet, a gorgeous wood burning fireplace and ample work / play space with amazing south-facing windows.. Due to the zoning and delicate systems, this structure is not suited for living, but works well as an overnight guest house and/or incredible workspace.
