    What's special

A distinctive, ONE-OF-A-KIND GEM for those who appreciate rare finds and antiques (some even call it a castle or palace) and also enjoy the rainforest look of the yards. This home is NOT for those who don't like trees, desire a manicured yard, and prefer an ultra-modern style home. Conveniently located just 1.5 blocks from the new NOHO West Developments - featuring shops, restaurants, movie theaters, etc. The main house is 2-story Spanish/Mediterranean style with 2 towers: one round, one square both with stairs to the 2nd floor. Triple-layer Spanish tile roof and copper rain gutters. 2 living rooms: one in front, the other in back, dining room, 3 bedrooms: 2 master one is a huge master-suite and 4 bathrooms (2 full, 2 half). Separate studio/office with 4 skylights with decorative iron-work and adjustable shades - and an open-beam ceiling. A small garden-room adjoins the studio/office. Enjoy the 1,184 sq. ft. roof-top garden and 5x19 ft. balcony. The home-owner is a retired TV executive and also a photographer, artist, designer, and builder of unusual custom homes. This is a stunning, one-of-a-kind custom-remodeled home with no expense spared! The 250 year old double front door is from Argentina. Most of the home's windows have partial (or full) antique stained glass from England and iron work matching the stained glass designs. Some of these windows are 10-12 feet tall. The huge 2nd floor patio (with bathroom and kitchenette) is surrounded by giant trees and is ideal for entertaining or just relaxing. From this high vantage point, one can see mountains to the north and south. The patio has a big stainless steel Lazy-Man BBQ plus sink with a custom countertop. A shade structure built of large wood beams with a plexiglass top covers the entire south edge of the patio. Sizeable potted plants. Seating is available on custom designed natural wood furniture by Crooked Roots. Finally, the home's privacy is ensured by 6 ft. concrete block walls on the sides and back, with a wrought-iron fence in front. Many trees (front, back, sides) give privacy and shade. The backyard features a massive gazebo and garden furniture made from repurposed trees. One feels like they are living in a rainforest. All the home's garden furniture and gazebo were done in the 1980's by artist Dennis Little of Crooked Roots. This gem boasts original hardwood floors plus Spanish tile throughout. Both towers, the huge upstairs master bedroom, the bathroom at the base of the round tower, and the 2nd floor patio bathroom feature massive natural wood beams and ceilings. The kitchen sink is permanently installed in a converted Florentine desk with a black marble countertop. The upstairs master bathroom features a custom Onyx bathtub/jacuzzi, shower, sink, toilet, and bidet with a 6 ft. tall antique stained glass privacy divider. The back living room has a very high ceiling with natural wood beams and features a 10-12 ft. tall antique stained glass window showing delicate plant leaves and flowers. Most interior doors have antique stained glass. 2 tall matching cabinets with stained glass are on either side of the tall stained glass window mentioned above and are from the same period. The large windows are protected on the exterior with plexiglass. Antique (and regular) framed mirrors throughout the house. Most are very large and permanently installed. Several of the bathrooms also have antique mirrors. All the bathroom fixtures (sink, toilet) are the top quality one could buy at the time and have stunning colors hard to find today. The many lighting fixtures installed in both the round and square towers took years of searching before finding the right ones (some resemble plant forms) to match the styles of the towers. This home is super well-insulated and remains cool inside up to 100 degrees outside.
