The kitchen was redone several years ago, so the appliances (gas cooktop) are relatively new. The eat-in area has a gas fireplace, which makes it both warm and inviting. It is also big. The kitchen opens onto the back deck, which again, is ample. It is shaded in spring/summer/fall, so it is like having one more room for three seasons/year. There are three bedrooms on the main floor, all with hardwood floors). The master bedroom has its own bathroom and walk-in closet. The main floor also offers another full bathroom and laundry room. The lake itself has 8 miles of shoreline. The water is clean, so you can swim (and fish) in it. There are five beaches with soft white sand, staffed in the summer by qualified lifeguards. Beaches 3 and 5 are closest to the house. There are picnic tables and grills at Beach 3, as well as some play-equipment. Hanging out at the beach, especially on weekends, is an easy way to meet other neighborhood families. Lake Barcroft Neighborhood Association throws a bunch of parties every year: Fourth of July fireworks (spectacular!), Labor Day games (for young and old), Easter Egg Hunt, Halloween... great fun, and of course, a great opportunity to meet the community. It is extraordinary to live so close to the lake - and also so close to the city. The house is a few minutes walk from a sandy beach, and about a 15 minute drive from Washington DC.
