638 West End Ave is a 25 foot wide Beaux-Arts mansion designed by the well-known New York architect Hugh Lamb in 1899 and is located on the southeast corner of 91st Street & West End Ave. This 5-story mansion consists of 7,250 sq ft and 13 apartments. The building size is 25 × 56 ft. The building is faced in red brick laid in Flemish bond with smooth ashlar limestone coursing at the first story and stone trim above. The facade is enhanced by entrance porticoes and classically-inspired window surrounds. It is fronted by a limestone portico with a cluster of three Ionic pilasters at each side. The fence enclosing the area is the original wrought-iron with cast finials. Above the portico is a balcony with a cast-stone balustrade. Limestone surrounds the window openings. The West 91st Street facade features the same overall design and articulation to detail as the West End Ave facade. Chimneys and dormers punctuate the roof.
